Siemens Secures €2 Billion Battery Train Contract in Germany

Siemens Mobility has secured a contract worth more than €2 billion to supply 113 Mireo Plus B battery-powered trains in Lower Saxony, Germany. The agreement includes two new maintenance centers and 30 years of servicing, with an option for 132 additional trains. Scheduled to enter passenger service in late 2031, the trains will operate on both electrified and non-electrified routes, reducing dependence on diesel. The investment represents a significant step toward cleaner regional transportation while creating long-term opportunities for suppliers of battery systems, electrical components, cooling technologies and rail infrastructure. It also demonstrates the growing commercial potential of battery-powered rail networks.
