QatarEnergy and ExxonMobil’s $10B US project exports first LNG cargo

QatarEnergy and ExxonMobil have successfully exported the first LNG cargo from their $10 billion Golden Pass LNG project in Texas, marking a major milestone for the development. The first shipment was loaded at Sabine Pass onto the LNG carrier Al-Qaiyyah, about 24 days after initial production began from the project’s first liquefaction train on March 30, 2026. This confirms the facility has moved from startup into active export operations. The Golden Pass LNG development includes three liquefaction trains with a total capacity of 18.1 million tonnes per year, along with storage tanks and marine terminals for large LNG carriers. QatarEnergy will handle 70% of the output through its trading division. The project, first approved in 2019, is one of the largest LNG investments in U.S. history and represents QatarEnergy’s biggest investment in the country. Construction continues on the remaining two trains, which will further increase export capacity once completed. Overall, the first cargo signals the project’s entry into global LNG supply, strengthening efforts to meet rising international energy demand.
