Bilfinger's New Contract for Green Hydrogen facility

Industrial services provider Bilfinger has been awarded a major contract, as part of a consortium, to support the development of bp’s new green hydrogen electrolyzer facility. With a planned capacity of 100 MW, the project is set to become bp’s largest green hydrogen production site and the company’s first fully owned and operated hydrogen plant. Once operational, the facility is expected to produce up to 11,000 tonnes of green hydrogen per year. Commissioning is scheduled for 2027, with the plant powered by renewable electricity. The hydrogen produced will be supplied to industrial customers via Germany’s hydrogen core network and used at a nearby refinery to enable the production of lower-emission fuels. Bilfinger’s scope of work includes prefabrication, assembly and installation of piping systems and plant components, as well as thermal and cold insulation and HVAC system installation. During peak construction phases, more than 200 Bilfinger specialists are expected to be working on site. Bilfinger Group CEO Thomas Schulz highlighted the strategic importance of the collaboration, noting that the project supports Germany’s hydrogen infrastructure development and strengthens the company’s position in advancing industrial efficiency and sustainability.
