New Gulf Coast Recycling Plant Strengthens Circular Plastics Infrastructure

TALKE USA Inc., the Houston-area branch of the German logistics company TALKE, has officially opened its Recycling Support Center near its headquarters, marking a significant step toward sustainable waste management in the region. Partially funded by Chambers County, the facility will receive post-consumer plastics from the community, sort and bale them, and prepare the materials for further recycling. TALKE USA’s CEO, Richard Heath, emphasized that the plant represents a “win” for local residents and a new beginning for effective, safe, and sustainable plastics recycling. The bales of plastic will be processed at Cyclyx’s Houston Circularity Center, a first-of-its-kind plastic sorting and processing hub created through a joint venture with ExxonMobil and LyondellBasell. Unlike traditional recycling facilities, the center will accept a wide range of plastics, including difficult-to-recycle items such as multi-layered films like chip bags and juice pouches. Leslie Hushka, Cyclyx’s chief impact officer, noted that this approach will help capture more everyday plastics from the community and keep them out of landfills, creating a more integrated circular economy along the Gulf Coast.
