Mobileye acquires humanoid robotics startup Mentee Robotics for $900M in major AI bet

Mobileye is making a significant move beyond autonomous driving by acquiring humanoid robotics startup Mentee Robotics for around $900 million, signaling a strong bet on the future of artificial intelligence outside of vehicles. The company believes that the core technologies behind self-driving cars—such as environment sensing, perception, and real-time decision-making—are equally critical for humanoid robots operating in human-designed spaces. The acquisition will combine Mobileye’s software stack, sensing hardware, and safety systems with Mentee’s work on general-purpose humanoid robots. Mobileye expects the first autonomous proof-of-concept deployments at customer sites in 2026, with series production and commercial rollout planned for 2028. These robots are intended to work in environments like warehouses, factories, and industrial sites, where layouts are stable and labor shortages are driving demand for automation. The deal, announced at CES in Las Vegas, also underscores CEO Amnon Shashua’s influence, as he leads both Mobileye and Mentee Robotics. With growing competition from companies such as Tesla, Figure AI, and Agility Robotics, the acquisition positions Mobileye to become an early and serious contender in the rapidly emerging field of humanoid and embodied AI systems.
