Wicomico County selects Waga Energy to upgrade landfill gas to RNG

Wicomico County, Maryland, has selected Waga Energy to build, own, operate, and maintain a renewable natural gas (RNG) facility at the Newland Park Landfill near Salisbury. The plant will upgrade landfill gas into pipeline-quality RNG using Waga Energy’s WAGABOX technology, which combines membrane filtration and cryogenic distillation. Once operational, the facility will process up to 1,000 scfm of landfill gas and produce more than 210,000 MMBtu (62 GWh) of RNG annually, supplying the local gas network. The project complies with stricter methane-control regulations and is expected to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by about 12,200 tones of CO₂ equivalent per year, comparable to the energy in one million gallons of diesel. The initiative supports the circular economy, reduces reliance on fossil fuels, and turns waste-derived methane into a valuable local energy resource. County officials say the project advances Wicomico County’s environmental goals, while Waga Energy highlights it as a successful public–private partnership supporting Maryland’s decarbonization efforts.
