Osaka Gas strikes deal to procure US-produced biomethane

Osaka Gas Trading & Export (OGTX), a U.S. subsidiary of Osaka Gas Co., Ltd., has agreed to purchase 26,000 Nm³ of biomethane from Archaea Energy, a bp company in the United States. The biomethane is produced from landfill gas and will be liquefied at the Freeport LNG terminal on the U.S. Gulf Coast before being shipped to Osaka Gas’s LNG terminals in Japan’s Kansai region. The deal includes not only the biomethane itself but also its environmental attributes, which will be delivered to Japanese customers via the local pipeline network for use in industrial and commercial facilities. This transaction is part of Osaka Gas’s broader strategy to develop domestic and international supply chains for carbon-neutral energy, including biomethane and e-methane, helping Japan advance its transition toward low-carbon energy solutions and meet environmental sustainability targets. How It Will Affect U.S. Energy Manufacturers: Equipment demand: Upgrading and liquefaction systems Clean-energy manufacturing: Compressors, cryogenic tanks, gas treatment Infrastructure growth: Pipelines, monitoring systems, processing units Trade opportunities: Strengthened U.S.–Japan energy exports Gulf Coast suppliers: Maintenance, parts, and industrial services
