Anaergia wins C$43.8m contract for San Diego renewable power facility

Anaergia Technologies has secured a C$43.8 million (€29.6M) design-build contract to construct a renewable power generation facility for the East County Advanced Water Purification Joint Powers Authority in San Diego County. The plant will convert organic waste into renewable electricity using high-efficiency anaerobic digestion and combined heat and power systems. Anaergia will handle the full process—design, construction, commissioning, and startup. The project aims to strengthen the water district’s energy resilience, reduce operating costs, and support long-term decarbonization goals. Leaders from Padre Dam Municipal Water District emphasized that the facility will help protect ratepayers from rising power costs while improving the stability of critical water infrastructure. Construction is expected to finish in two years. The renewable-power project is part of the broader East County Advanced Water Purification Program, a partnership among multiple local agencies that will provide a drought-resilient water supply capable of meeting up to 30% of East San Diego County’s drinking-water demand through purified recycled water. 1. Increased demand for U.S.-made clean-energy components such as biogas engines, CHP systems, pumps, sensors, and control units. 2. More opportunities for suppliers in waste-to-energy and water-treatment technologies, as similar infrastructure projects expand nationwide. 3. Improved local energy stability and potentially lower operational costs, benefiting manufacturers located in or supplying to the region. 4. Stronger incentives for manufacturers to develop low-carbon and circular-economy products, as utilities and municipalities adopt cleaner systems.
