New agreement between German and French Maritime Companies

CMA CGM has agreed to acquire a 20% stake in EUROGATE’s Container Terminal Hamburg (CTH), with the deal expected to close in the first half of 2026 pending regulatory approval. The investment, made through CMA Terminals, aligns with CMA CGM’s strategy to expand its European port infrastructure and strengthen its global shipping network. CMA CGM already regularly calls at CTH through its major Asia–Northern Europe FAL service. The partnership will support EUROGATE’s major Western Extension project at the Hamburg terminal, adding 38 hectares of space, 1,050 meters of new quay wall, and increasing capacity from about 4 million to nearly 6 million TEUs. The expansion will accommodate next-generation vessels and improve efficiency, intermodal connections, and overall terminal operations. CMA CGM’s participation aims to boost the port’s rail links and advance more sustainable terminal practices. Both companies view the deal as a long-term commitment to Hamburg’s competitiveness as a leading Northern European logistics hub. It comes as the Port of Hamburg pursues a broader €1.1 billion modernization plan, including improvements to the Elbe approach and additional terminal yards to support faster, safer navigation and future climate-neutral operations.
