Global SAF Expansion Accelerates with New Funding, Regulations, and Airline Commitments

Global efforts to expand Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) production are accelerating through new funding and legislation. Breakthrough Energy Ventures, together with the oneworld airline alliance, launched a $150 million fund to speed up SAF commercialization. In Asia, the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore created a central SAF company to buy and distribute the fuel, funded by a levy on passenger and cargo flights. According to Data Intelligence, the global SAF market was worth $586 million in 2024 and is expected to surpass $4.8 billion by 2031, driven by airline commitments and government mandates. In Europe, the Refuel EU regulation will raise SAF blending requirements from 2% in 2025 to 6% in 2030, further boosting demand for low-carbon fuels and technologies.
