Germany Launches €2 Billion Fusion Energy Plan Aimed for 2029

Germany has officially unveiled its Fusion Action Plan, a cornerstone of the Federal Government’s High-Tech Agenda, signaling an ambitious national goal — to deliver a fusion power plant by 2029. Presented by the Federal Ministry for Research, Technology and Space, the initiative reinforces Germany’s determination to position itself at the forefront of Europe’s clean energy revolution. More than €2 billion will be invested in fusion research and development over the next four years. The plan defines eight key action areas: strengthening research funding, building a fusion ecosystem between science and industry, creating infrastructures and demonstrators, training new specialists, engaging the public, developing regulatory frameworks, protecting intellectual property, and enhancing international cooperation. Through this comprehensive strategy, Germany aims to make fusion a pillar of a climate-neutral, innovation-driven future, merging scientific excellence with industrial opportunity. The European Fusion Association (EFA) welcomed the announcement, calling it a vital step toward realizing the long-awaited promise of fusion energy across Europe.
