🚧 Berlin Launches Major Tender for Sustainable District Heating Upgrade

Berlin is taking a significant step toward decarbonizing its urban heating infrastructure. BEW Berliner Energie und Wärme GmbH has announced a competitive tender for the design, supply, installation, and commissioning of a new electric hot water generator (E-HWE) facility at the HKW Mitte site. The project, titled “SGM – Sustainable Growth Mitte – Lot 1: EPC Light SGM,” will include the delivery of three 40 MWth electrode boilers, the replacement of three district heating pumps, and the complete construction of the associated systems. Once completed, the new installation will contribute up to 120 MW of thermal capacity to Berlin’s district heating network—supporting the city's long-term energy transition and emission reduction goals. The contract is being awarded through a negotiated procedure with prior publication, and interested parties must submit their request to participate by June 6, 2025. The expected project execution period runs from February 2026 to June 2028. Proposals will be evaluated based on 60% price and 40% technical performance. The tender requires compliance with strict technical, safety, and environmental standards, including KRITIS infrastructure guidelines and integration into BEW’s existing automation and protection systems.
