🔧 AFC Energy Partners to Develop Ammonia Cracking Tech for Hydrogen Growth

AFC Energy, a UK-based hydrogen power technology firm, has signed a Joint Development Agreement (JDA) with a major—but unnamed—S&P 500 industrial company to co-develop modular ammonia crackers. These systems will support hydrogen production across various scales, from small units to industrial-sized applications. Under the agreement, AFC’s development costs will be reimbursed, with revenue generation expected to begin in 2027 upon meeting key milestones. The collaboration aligns with AFC’s mission to drive hydrogen economy growth without government subsidies. CEO John Wilson emphasized the importance of this step, highlighting the partner’s support as a strong endorsement of AFC’s proprietary technology. The ammonia cracker will complement AFC’s existing hydrogen fuel cell products, enabling heavy industries to decarbonize more efficiently. The agreement also strengthens the market potential of Hyamtec, AFC’s ammonia-focused subsidiary launched in 2024. Hyamtec targets: - Decarbonization of industrial heat generation - Ammonia-to-hydrogen conversion for combustion engines in power, marine, and mining - Modular hydrogen production for transport and fuel cell applications Ammonia is a key hydrogen carrier, making this partnership a significant leap toward cleaner and more scalable hydrogen logistics.
