🚰 Saudi Arabia’s NWC Launches $613M Sanitation Projects to Upgrade Jeddah’s Wastewater Infrastructure

The National Water Company (NWC) of Saudi Arabia has launched 15 major sanitation and sewage infrastructure projects in Jeddah, valued at over SAR 2.3 billion ($613 million). These initiatives aim to enhance wastewater services for over 1.3 million residents, aligning with the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 goals of improved environmental sustainability and infrastructure modernization. 🔹 Key Project: The Eastern Tunnel Project—a SAR 774 million sewage pipeline—will transport wastewater from areas east of Haramain Road to Lift Station 2 near the airport. It spans 14 km and is designed using advanced tunneling technology that minimizes traffic disruption. 🔹 Sewage Lifting Station: A second major development includes the airport sewage lifting project, valued at SAR 915 million, with a capacity of 611,000 m³/day, targeting pollution reduction and service expansion. 🔹 Samer District Expansion: NWC is also laying 17.8 km of sewer lines in Samer 1–4, serving 20,000 beneficiaries at a cost of over SAR 54 million. 🔹 Feeder Sewer Projects: 10 projects are underway across key Jeddah districts, including Al Waha, Al Shati, Al Nahda, and Al Zahraa, to extend coverage. 🔹 Surface Water Management: Two floodwater lowering projects in Bahra and Kilo 14 districts, with a budget exceeding SAR 620 million, will cover 238 km and benefit 184,000 residents. NWC’s CEO emphasized that rapid urbanization in Jeddah is driving infrastructure upgrades, while the company remains committed to expanding network coverage, optimizing efficiency, and delivering high-standard environmental services.
