♻️ Germany’s Remondis Acquires 80% Stake in French Recycling Firm Schroll

In a strategic cross-border move, Remondis, Germany’s leading waste management company, has acquired an 80% stake in Strasbourg-based Schroll, one of France’s prominent recycling firms. The Schroll family will retain the remaining 20% of shares. The financial details of the transaction have not been disclosed. Founded in 1892, Schroll manages close to 1 million tonnes of waste annually and reported a 91% recovery rate in 2024. The company, which employs around 800 people, will continue operating under its existing structure, now jointly managed by Remondis France Director General Philippe Girard alongside Pascal and Édouard Schroll. Schroll operates across Alsace, Lorraine, and Belfort, and owns subsidiaries like Citraval, Sardi, Altem, and Recybio. It also co-founded the B+S Recyclage joint venture with Germany’s BT Group, specializing in refuse-derived fuel (RDF) production with a 100,000-tonne annual capacity. The acquisition strengthens Remondis’s presence in France, where it has operated for over two decades through Remondis France SAS. The move follows Remondis’s growing French footprint, including a stake in Semardel and electronic waste processing via Remondis Electrorecycling. Parent company Rethmann Group, which also owns Saria and Rhenus, reported €22.86 billion in revenues in 2023—€13.2 billion of which came from Remondis in 2024.
