🇬🇧 UK Shortlists 27 Hydrogen Projects Worth 875MW in Clean Energy Drive

The UK government has announced the shortlist of 27 hydrogen projects under its Second Hydrogen Allocation Round (HAR2), totaling 875MW of potential low-carbon hydrogen production. This initiative is part of the broader Plan for Change strategy to reduce emissions, create thousands of skilled jobs, and reindustrialise key regions across the country. These innovative projects span clean power generation, ammonia production, sustainable aviation fuel, brick and glass manufacturing. They represent a significant step toward positioning the UK as a global clean energy superpower, with potential to attract over £1 billion in private investment by 2029. The hydrogen push has already brought in £400 million in investments in places like Milford Haven and High Marnham, generating 700+ direct jobs. HAR2 is expected to multiply this impact, supporting roles for engineers, welders, pipefitters, and other technical professionals. The move builds on the success of the First Hydrogen Allocation Round (HAR1), where 11 projects, including Whitelee Green Hydrogen and the Bradford Low Carbon project, were allocated more than £2 billion in funding. Industry leaders from Hydrogen UK and the Hydrogen Energy Association praised the HAR2 shortlist as a pivotal moment for the UK’s energy transition and industrial revival. Photo: gov.uk
