⚡ EIB Provides €400 Million for Power Grid Expansion in Eastern Saxony

The European Investment Bank (EIB) is supporting the Sachsenenergie Group with a €400 million loan to expand and modernize the power grid in Eastern Saxony. By 2027, Sachsenenergie plans to invest a total of €732 million in infrastructure projects across Dresden and the districts of Bautzen, Görlitz, Meißen, and Sächsische Schweiz-Osterzgebirge. This year, the focus is on expanding high-voltage networks, including the installation of a more powerful 110-kilovolt switchgear at the Dresden-Räcknitz substation and upgrades at the Zeithain substation. Another key project is the network hub in Horka, east of Niesky. By 2028, the company aims to upgrade, reinforce, renew, or build 170 kilometers of high-voltage lines and expand or construct 20 substations. From 2029 to 2033, additional work is planned on 125 kilometers of lines and 29 substations, followed by major renovations on 280 kilometers of lines and 25 substations by 2045. The medium-voltage network will also see significant expansion. Photo: Sachsenenergie
