💨 Five UK Co-Ops Join Forces to Tap Clean Energy from London Array Wind Farm

In a major step toward community-powered sustainability, five UK co-operatives have entered into a 10-year corporate power purchase agreement (CPPA) with RWE to source renewable electricity from the 630 MW London Array offshore wind farm. Starting April 1, 2025, Lincolnshire Co-op, Scotmid Co-op, East of England Co-op, Southern Co-op, and Central Co-op will receive up to 53 GWh of green electricity annually — enough to power over 400 sites, including retail stores, funeral homes, and travel agencies. The electricity will come from the London Array, located 20+ km off the Kent coast, one of the world's largest offshore wind farms, featuring 175 Siemens Gamesa turbines. The deal ensures cost savings and long-term energy stability for the co-ops, while supporting the UK's clean energy transition. The agreement was facilitated by Inspired PLC and legally negotiated by Shoosmiths LLP. RWE, which operates the wind farm, holds a 30% stake in the project alongside international partners. This move follows RWE’s recent renewable energy deal with Telehouse Europe, signaling a growing shift in corporate and cooperative sectors toward clean, long-term energy partnerships.
