Texas Gears Up to Lead the Hydrogen Revolution 🚀

Texas is positioning itself as a global leader in hydrogen energy, adding to its legacy as the nation’s top energy producer. Already home to one-third of U.S. hydrogen production, the state is set to expand further with major new facilities planned in Corpus Christi, Wilbarger County, and Baytown. ExxonMobil’s upcoming Baytown plant, projected to be the world’s largest low-carbon hydrogen facility, will capture 10 million metric tons of CO₂ annually while producing six times more hydrogen than existing sites. Hydrogen’s potential lies in its versatility—usable in transportation, heavy industry, and power generation—with zero emissions. However, challenges remain in making it cost-competitive. The Department of Energy aims to reduce hydrogen production costs by 80% and grow the industry fivefold by 2050. With its natural gas resources, renewable energy capacity, skilled workforce, and existing pipeline infrastructure, Texas is well-positioned to lead the hydrogen boom—potentially creating 180,000 jobs and contributing over $100 billion to the state’s economy. Matt Welch of Conservative Texans for Energy Innovation calls for state policymakers to support long-term demand and infrastructure investment, ensuring Texas remains the energy capital for decades to come.
