⚡ Fusion Energy and RWE to Build Fusion Pilot Plant Near Frankfurt

Fusion energy startup Focused Energy, a U.S.-German company, has signed a landmark agreement with German energy giant RWE and the state of Hesse to construct a fusion pilot plant at the decommissioned Biblis nuclear site near Frankfurt. The ambitious project, slated for completion by 2035, could cost up to 7 billion euros. Focused Energy plans to harness laser-driven fusion, utilizing lasers that are reportedly 30 times more efficient than those used in current U.S. labs. The Biblis site, once Germany’s oldest nuclear fission plant, has been inactive since the country’s move away from nuclear power. This partnership signals a significant step as Germany’s new conservative government seeks to establish a regulatory framework for fusion energy development across Europe. Despite supply chain hurdles for laser technology, the project reflects growing momentum toward clean, limitless energy solutions.
