RWE and TotalEnergies Sign Landmark Green Hydrogen Deal 🇩🇪⚡

Germany’s largest utility, RWE, has signed a long-term agreement to supply 30,000 tonnes of green hydrogen annually to TotalEnergies starting in 2030, with the contract running through 2044. This marks the largest carbon-neutral hydrogen deal ever from a German electrolysis facility, RWE announced. The hydrogen will be produced at RWE’s upcoming 300 MW electrolysis plant in Lingen, operational in 2027, and transported via Germany’s new hydrogen core network to TotalEnergies’ Leuna refinery in eastern Germany. The project highlights both companies’ commitment to decarbonising industry and expanding the use of renewable energy. No financial details were disclosed, but RWE CEO Markus Krebber emphasized the deal’s significance in proving hydrogen’s viability when supported by proper incentives. The move also strengthens the partnership between RWE and TotalEnergies, who already collaborate in offshore wind and hydrogen projects across Europe. The agreement arrives amid ongoing debate about the cost and scalability of green hydrogen in Europe, especially as industries face high energy prices.
