🔋 $135M Secured for New Houston Battery Storage Project

SMT Energy has secured $135 million in funding to develop SMT Houston IV, a 160-megawatt battery energy storage facility set to support Texas' ERCOT power grid. The project is scheduled to go live by 2026 and will have the capacity to store and deliver enough electricity annually for 8,800 homes. Key backers include Macquarie and KeyBanc Capital Markets, with $100 million in project financing and $62 million in investment tax credits. FlexGen Power Systems will supply the equipment and provide advanced energy management software to optimize performance. This marks another step in SMT Energy’s ambitious plan to boost Texas' grid reliability, following their 2023 announcement to double their storage capacity in the region. With a 2 GWh project pipeline aimed for completion by 2030, SMT Energy is powering up for a more resilient energy future.
