European Hydrogen Bank’s Auction Oversubscribed by 4x 🚀

The European Hydrogen Bank’s second auction for renewable hydrogen production saw overwhelming demand, attracting 61 project bids across 11 EEA countries, requesting over €4.8 billion—four times the available budget. Despite strong interest, challenges remain, including sluggish market adoption and financial struggles, exemplified by Danish electrolyzer manufacturer Green Hydrogen Systems filing for restructuring. The EU continues to push for clean hydrogen as part of its industrial decarbonization strategy, with the next auction planned before year-end. Winners of the current round will be announced in May, with projects expected to start hydrogen production within five years.
