NRG Energy to Build Four New Gas Plants to Power AI ⚡

Houston-based NRG Energy has announced plans to construct four new natural gas power plants to meet the increasing energy demands of AI-driven data centers. The facilities will serve the ERCOT (Texas) and PJM (Mid-Atlantic) regions, with the first 1.2-gigawatt phase expected to be operational by 2029 and full completion by 2032. NRG is partnering with GE Vernova and The Industrial Company (TIC) to accelerate construction. This initiative follows NRG’s previous efforts to build three quick-start gas plants in Houston, expected to provide power by summer 2026. The move highlights the growing power needs of AI infrastructure and the push for more dispatchable energy generation in the U.S.
