UK’s First Unsubsidised Biomethane Plant Now Operational 🌱

Future Biogas and AstraZeneca have launched the UK’s first unsubsidised biomethane plant in Gonerby Moor, Lincolnshire, dedicated to fuelling the life sciences sector. The facility will provide clean heat for AstraZeneca’s R&D and manufacturing, generating enough biomethane to heat over 8,000 homes annually. The plant features carbon capture technology to either reuse or sequester CO2, contributing to long-term carbon removal. Local farmers will supply certified sustainable feedstock under five-year contracts, ensuring financial stability and eco-friendly farming practices. AstraZeneca sees this as a key step in decarbonising healthcare, while Future Biogas calls it a bold move towards industrial sustainability. 🚀
