OPAL Fuels Expands Biogas RNG Portfolio with Four New Landfill Projects in the US 🌱

OPAL Fuels Inc. has announced joint ventures to develop four new landfill-based renewable natural gas (RNG) projects in the United States. The company's 50% stake represents 1.5 million MMBtu of annual capacity. Construction is set to begin in 2025, with the projects expected to produce around 20 million gasoline gallon equivalents (GGE) annually once fully operational. Co-CEO Jonathan Maurer highlighted the initiative’s role in decarbonizing heavy-duty trucking and providing clean energy for homes and businesses. While specific details about the locations and operational partners of these four new projects have not been publicly disclosed, OPAL Fuels has a proven track record in RNG project development. The company has completed over 350 fueling station projects and multiple RNG facilities nationwide, including a recent project at the Kirby Canyon Landfill in Santa Clara County, California. This facility, which began construction in November 2024, is designed to produce approximately 5.1 million GGE of RNG annually.
