⚡German Enertrag Launches Auction for 500 Tonnes of Green Hydrogen

German renewable energy company Enertrag SE has announced the launch of a public auction for 500 tonnes of green hydrogen supply per year from its 10MW electrolyser currently under construction in Osterweddingen, near Magdeburg. The electrolyser, powered by Enertrag’s onshore wind parks, is expected to start operations by the end of 2025 and will produce around 900 tonnes of green hydrogen annually. The auction was unveiled at the E-World 2025 expo in Essen, which took place from February 11 to February 13. Enertrag aims to provide companies with early access to green hydrogen and support the ramp-up of the hydrogen economy. The company estimates that 500 tonnes of hydrogen could be used to produce 5,000 tonnes of green steel, fuel hydrogen-powered buses or trucks for 5 million kilometers, or generate 2,500 tonnes of green methanol. The company has long-term plans for hydrogen infrastructure, including developing additional hydrogen plants along Germany’s H2 core network. This includes two electrolysis projects totaling 185MW, set to begin production in 2028.
