ExxonMobil and Trammo Push Low-Carbon Ammonia Deal in Texas 🌱

U.S. energy giant ExxonMobil and commodities trader Trammo have signed a heads of agreement (HoA) for the long-term offtake of 300,000 to 500,000 tonnes of low-carbon ammonia per year from ExxonMobil’s Baytown, Texas facility. The Baytown plant is expected to produce 1 million metric tonnes of ammonia annually, capturing over 98% of CO₂ emissions, with a final investment decision (FID) slated for 2025 and operations anticipated by 2029. Trammo will leverage its global logistics network to distribute ammonia for fertilizer and industrial use, particularly in Europe and other markets. This project is part of ExxonMobil’s broader low-carbon initiatives, which include a 35% equity deal with ADNOC, partnerships with Air Liquide for hydrogen development along the U.S. Gulf Coast, and JERA’s potential investment and ammonia procurement for Japan. The deal marks a significant step in decarbonizing industrial sectors and expanding the low-carbon hydrogen and ammonia market worldwide.
