UK Launches $37M Clean Maritime Decarbonization Fund 🌊

The UK government has announced the sixth round of the Clean Maritime Demonstration Competition (CMDC6), allocating $37 million (£30 million) to accelerate maritime decarbonization. This initiative supports innovative clean technologies, including electric, hydrogen, ammonia, methanol, and wind propulsion, driving economic growth and creating jobs across the UK. Flagship projects include: - The UK’s first electric chargepoint network for South West ports. - Retrofitting a hydrogen research vessel in Wales. - Installing a carbon capture system on a vessel. - In Hull, $4.6 million funded GT Wings' AirWing wind propulsion system, expected to cut vessel emissions by 30%. The first AirWing is undergoing assembly and will undergo sea trials in March 2025. With applications open from January 24 to April 16, CMDC6 aims to advance the UK’s maritime innovation, contributing to zero-emission shipping. To date, CMDC has invested £159 million, managed by Innovate UK under the UK Shipping Office for Reducing Emissions (UK SHORE) program.
