Mabanaft to Retrofit Hamburg Tank Terminal for Methanol Import and Storage 🚢

Germany's energy company Mabanaft plans to convert four tanks at its Blumensand terminal in the Port of Hamburg to store and import methanol, supporting the shift to greener fuels. The retrofit, starting mid-2025, will enable methanol storage by 2027. The converted tanks will hold a total of 20,000 cubic meters, with two tanks operational by mid-2026 and the remaining by 2027, pending approvals from Hamburg's environmental authority (BUKEA). Mabanaft aims to supply methanol for shipping, transport, and chemical industries, emphasizing CO2-reduced methanol options like e-methanol, biomethanol, and blue methanol. The project aligns with Mabanaft's broader strategy to offer diverse sustainable fuels, including hydrogen and ammonia, simplifying decarbonization for its customers. Additionally, Mabanaft has submitted plans for an ammonia import terminal in Hamburg, marking another step in its commitment to cleaner energy solutions.
