Stellantis: Hungary’s Szentgotthard Plant at the Heart of Automotive Innovation 🚗

Stellantis is solidifying its role in Europe’s energy transition with a key focus on its Szentgotthard plant in Hungary. This facility is pivotal in balancing the production of internal combustion engines (ICE) and electric motors, catering to the evolving demands of the automotive market while maintaining its significance in the group’s global strategy. The Szentgotthard plant has long been a cornerstone of Stellantis’ ICE production. It specializes in manufacturing 1.2L and 1.6L engines, which are widely utilized across the group’s vehicle lineup. Current production targets include 220,000 units annually for the 1.6L PHEV engine, while the 1.2L engine’s output is anticipated to grow significantly, potentially reaching 1 million units annually. This increase aligns with the rising demand for hybrid models that continue to rely on ICE components. The future of the Szentgotthard plant is even more dynamic. From 2026, it will expand its operations to include the production of high-performance electric motors for vehicles built on Stellantis’ STLA Large platform. This transition reflects the group’s commitment to electrification and positions the plant as a dual-purpose facility capable of serving both traditional and electric vehicle markets. This development ensures that Hungary remains a key player in Stellantis’ European production strategy. Photo Credit: wardsauto.com
