🌬️ Record Onshore Wind Auctions Signal Germany’s Green Energy Growth

Germany’s November onshore wind power auctions have shattered records, with bidders submitting proposals totaling over 6 gigawatts (GW)—far surpassing the 4 GW offered by the Federal Network Agency (BNetzA). This marks a significant increase compared to previous years, with the submitted bids in this auction alone exceeding the total volume from 2023. The average awarded support price was 7.15 cents per kilowatt-hour (kWh), slightly lower than the previous round’s 7.33 cents per kWh, indicating a growing efficiency in project proposals. The western state of North Rhine-Westphalia saw the highest number of awarded projects, followed by Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and Brandenburg, while southern states Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg, traditionally slower in wind energy adoption, also showed notable progress. BNetzA also reported oversubscription in other renewable energy auctions: Biomass power plants received bids totaling 622 megawatts (MW) for a planned volume of 234 MW, primarily from operators seeking extended support for existing installations. Roof-mounted solar power saw 1.7 times more bids than the allocated 258 MW, the highest volume ever for this segment.
