Germany to Tender 12 GW of Offshore Wind by 2029 ๐

Germany is set to accelerate its offshore wind expansion with a new Site Development Plan 2025, published by the German Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency (BSH) on January 30. The plan outlines the auctioning of 12 GW of offshore wind capacity over the next four years, reinforcing the countryโs commitment to reaching 40 GW of operational offshore wind by 2035 and 70 GW by 2045.

The latest plan builds upon previously designated offshore wind zones and introduces additional capacity, particularly in the North Sea, where new areas N-9, N-12, and N-13 have been defined with an expected total capacity of 8 GW.
- 6 GW of new capacity is scheduled to be operational by the end of 2034.
- With existing projects under construction, Germany is projected to have 42.6 GW of offshore wind power by 2034.
- In the Baltic Sea, no new areas have been added in this update, but future revisions may introduce further expansion zones.
