🌍 New H2Med Alliance Drives European Hydrogen Market Forward

Leading companies from France, Germany, Portugal, and Spain have formed an alliance to advance the H2Med Southwestern Hydrogen Corridor, aiming to establish a European hydrogen single market by the early 2030s. This initiative, aligned with the European Green Deal, seeks to decarbonize industrial sectors and scale hydrogen production, storage, and consumption.

The alliance includes major players like thyssenkrupp nucera, Enagas, GRTgaz, and REN, among others. Key projects such as H2Med and HY-FEN, recognized as EU Projects of Common Interest, are central to this effort. Members will focus on connecting infrastructure and accelerating hydrogen economy development through regular collaboration.

Werner Ponikwar, CEO of thyssenkrupp nucera, emphasized the importance of swift infrastructure expansion to support the hydrogen economy and decarbonize sectors like aviation, maritime, and heavy transport.

The H2Med project, with an investment of €2.5 billion, aims to connect Iberian Peninsula hydrogen networks to France, Germany, and North-West Europe, providing renewable hydrogen across the continent by 2030. A non-binding Call for Interest is open until December 18, 2024, inviting stakeholders to share input on the corridor’s infrastructure needs.
