🇩🇪🤝🇺🇸 Uniper Partners with Electric Hydrogen to Advance Green Wilhelmshaven Project in Northern Germany 🌍⚡

German energy giant Uniper has partnered with U.S. electrolyzer manufacturer Electric Hydrogen to advance its Green Wilhelmshaven project in Northern Germany. The collaboration includes designing a 200 MW electrolyzer plant to produce green hydrogen, marking a significant step in Uniper’s transition toward renewable energy.
The project, located on the site of Uniper’s former coal-fired power plant, integrates large-scale electrolysis powered by wind energy and an ammonia import terminal near the region's first LNG terminal. These facilities will connect to Germany’s hydrogen backbone and underground storage, positioning Wilhelmshaven as a key hub for green hydrogen in Europe.
Preliminary front-end engineering design (pre-FEED) began in October 2024, with Electric Hydrogen committed to providing advanced, cost-efficient electrolysis technology. Uniper aims to lead in decarbonizing German and European industries, aligning with its vision for a secure, affordable, and greener energy future.
Uniper’s hydrogen director, Susanne Thöle, highlighted the project as a cornerstone of the energy transition, while Electric Hydrogen CEO Raffi Garabedian emphasized the transformative potential of green hydrogen in moving away from fossil fuels. This initiative represents a pivotal step in making zero-carbon hydrogen a reality for Europe’s energy sector. 🌱🔋
