Google Will Build Clean Nuclear Reactors for Its Data Centers by 2030⚡🌱🔋💡

Google has announced a groundbreaking partnership with Kairos Power to purchase small modular reactors (SMRs), aiming to power its AI data centers with clean nuclear energy. This deal marks the world's first corporate agreement for nuclear energy from SMRs, expected to produce up to 500 MW of carbon-free power for the U.S. electricity grid—sufficient to supply around 360,000 homes annually.

The first reactor is projected to be operational by 2030, with additional deployments through 2035. Kairos Power's innovative reactors use a molten-salt cooling system, which promises shorter construction times and adaptability for local energy needs.

This initiative aligns with Google's strategy to address the rising energy demands of its data centers, which are set to double by 2028, reaching 857 Terawatt hours (TWh). Google emphasizes that this agreement will help meet energy needs cleanly and reliably, unlocking the full potential of AI technologies.
