EMR has officially opened its first electric vehicle (EV) battery recycling center in Birmingham, marking a significant step towards sustainability in the UK. This new facility will handle over 2,000 tonnes of batteries annually, focusing on testing for reuse, repair, and processing for shredding.

The Birmingham plant follows EMR's recent collaboration with Northvolt to establish a similar site in Hamburg, Germany. It is part of the Recovas consortium, which aims to create the UK’s first commercial-scale recycling facility for EV battery packs
