ECL Announces Sustainable Hydrogen-Powered Data Center in Houston

ECL, a data center-as-a-service company from Mountain View, California, has announced the construction of TerraSite-TX1, a fully sustainable hydrogen-powered data center near Houston, Texas. Spanning 600 acres, the project will provide 1 gigawatt of power at an estimated cost of $8 billion. The first phase, set to be completed by summer 2025, will deliver 50 megawatts of capacity for cloud and AI operators, including initial tenant Lambda.

ECL's modular design allows for rapid expansion in 1-megawatt increments, significantly shortening construction timelines. As Texas faces a projected doubling of energy demand by 2030, this data center aims to alleviate pressure on the state's power grid and support economic growth in the AI sector.
