Germany is poised for a significant expansion in large-scale battery storage, with capacity expected to increase five-fold over the next two years. The solar industry association BSW (Bundesverband Solarwirtschaft) reports that around 7 GWh of new storage will be added by 2026, building on the 1.8 GWh already installed.

This growth is driven by shifting electricity market dynamics, enabling storage systems to optimize cheap solar power during peak demand periods without additional subsidies. Currently, over 80% of smaller rooftop solar systems are paired with battery storage, contributing to nearly 16 GWh of total installed capacity.
