CARBIOS and Selenis Partner for Sustainable Packaging Materials Production

CARBIOS and Selenis have signed a Letter of Intent to collaborate on producing sustainable PETG from biorecycled PET waste, targeting the cosmetics and healthcare packaging sectors in Europe and the U.S. CARBIOS will utilize its advanced enzymatic depolymerization technology to break down PET waste into purified terephthalic acid (PTA) and monoethylene glycol (MEG) monomers. These monomers will then be transformed into high-quality PETG through Selenis' polymerization processes.
This partnership addresses the growing demand for eco-friendly packaging solutions. PETG is valued in the cosmetics and healthcare industries for its clarity, durability, and resistance to mechanical and chemical stress. In medical and pharmaceutical applications, PETG ensures optimal packaging performance and sterility, making it ideal for complex medical devices and pharmaceutical blisters.
The collaboration builds on two years of joint efforts and extensive trials, resulting in high-specialty PETG grades that meet stringent industry standards. Together, CARBIOS and Selenis are driving the transition toward sustainable packaging materials, contributing to a more circular economy.
