EU Approves €19.6M WEDUSEA Wave Energy Project in the UK for Next Phase 🌊⚡
The European Union has approved the WEDUSEA project, a €19.6 million initiative aimed at advancing wave energy commercialization. Coordinated by Irish firm OceanEnergy, the project includes 14 partners from the UK, Germany, France, Ireland, and Spain. Co-funded by the EU Horizon Europe Program and Innovate UK, WEDUSEA will deploy a 1 MW OE35 floating wave energy converter at the European Marine Energy Centre in Orkney, Scotland, for a two-year demonstration starting in 2025.
The project aims to showcase the potential of wave energy, with the OE35 expected to supply electricity to the UK grid. The success of this phase could pave the way for larger-scale commercialization of wave energy technology.
