United Therapeutics Corporation has opened a new 77,448-square-foot biotechnology facility at Generation Park in Northeast Houston, marking a significant step in the development of organs genetically engineered for human transplantation. The facility will support the future commercial production of xeno-organs, including genetically modified pig kidneys and hearts, once regulatory approvals are obtained. Designed to maintain a highly controlled, pathogen-free environment, the site incorporates advanced air filtration, water purification, biosecurity systems and solar energy infrastructure. United Therapeutics is currently advancing clinical trials for its investigational xenotransplantation products, including UKidney, UThymoKidney and UHeart. The investment further strengthens Houston's position as an emerging biotechnology and pharmaceutical manufacturing hub, alongside major developments by Eli Lilly and Bristol Myers Squibb at Generation Park.
