In $2 billion deal, NVIDIA takes 20% stake in Woodlands-based Lancium

NVIDIA has invested $2 billion for a 20% stake in Lancium, a Texas-based company developing large-scale campuses that combine AI data centers with dedicated power infrastructure. The deal could increase to $3 billion if Lancium achieves certain milestones. The investment gives NVIDIA greater exposure to the physical infrastructure—particularly land and electricity capacity—needed to deploy its AI computing systems at scale. Lancium has approximately 4 GW of leased capacity and a development pipeline of more than 15 GW. Its flagship project is a 1,000-acre data center and power-generation campus in West Texas, being developed for the Stargate AI infrastructure initiative, a major project involving OpenAI, Oracle, SoftBank, and MGX. The campus is intended to support extremely large AI workloads requiring substantial and reliable power. The investment is also expected to help Lancium accelerate its expansion and potentially prepare for an IPO in 2027. Lancium previously received around $500 million from Blackstone Energy Transition Partners in 2024, giving Blackstone approximately a 50% stake. Following NVIDIA’s investment, Lancium and its portfolio of land and power connections are reportedly valued at around $10 billion. Under the partnership, Lancium’s future campuses will incorporate NVIDIA’s AI Factory platform, including computing, networking, and software technologies. This will allow NVIDIA customers and partners to access data center capacity backed by dedicated power infrastructure. Overall, the deal demonstrates how the rapid growth of AI is driving investment not only in chips and computing technology, but also in the energy, land, and data center infrastructure required to operate AI systems at gigawatt scale.
