European Investment Bank commits €3 billion to Airbus

The European Investment Bank (EIB) is committing €3 billion ($3.42 billion) to support Airbus, marking the largest corporate loan ever authorized by the EIB. Airbus has already signed an initial €1 billion loan, with the remaining financing forming part of the broader package aimed at strengthening Europe's industrial and technological competitiveness against rivals in the United States and China. The funding is the latest step in Europe's efforts to reinforce its aerospace, defence, and technology sectors. It follows the planned combination of the satellite businesses of Airbus, Thales, and Leonardo, which aims to create a European competitor to Starlink. The EIB said the financing will support Airbus' investment plans through 2030, covering commercial aviation, security, defence, and advanced technologies. Airbus CFO Thomas Toepfer said the loan strengthens the company's strategic partnership with the EIB, providing flexible and competitively priced financing that will help fund long-term aerospace innovation, support commercial and defence research, and optimize Airbus' balance sheet while reducing financing costs.
