L3Harris announces $1.27 billion expansion project at Virginia site

Defense contractor L3Harris Technologies announced a $1.27 billion expansion of its solid rocket motor production facility in Orange County, Virginia. The project will increase manufacturing capacity to support multiple U.S. Department of Defense programs, including key missile systems such as Tomahawk and Patriot interceptors. The investment follows a broader U.S. government commitment of $1 billion in L3Harris’ missile propulsion business through a convertible preferred stake, aimed at securing a stable supply of rocket motors. This unit is expected to spin off into a standalone missile propulsion company in the second half of 2026. The expansion reflects rising global demand for defense equipment as countries rebuild military stockpiles amid ongoing geopolitical tensions. L3Harris already operates similar production sites in Arkansas and Alabama, further strengthening its role in U.S. missile manufacturing capacity.
