$524M Texas Hill Country solar project powered by Hyundai kicks off

A $524 million solar power project in Texas Hill Country, led by Hyundai Engineering & Construction, officially kicked off on January 27. The Lucy Solar Project will be a 350-megawatt, utility-scale facility on nearly 2,900 acres of ranchland in Concho County, producing 926 gigawatt-hours of electricity annually—enough to power roughly 65,000 Texas homes. The project is expected to go online by mid-2027. Electricity from the farm’s hundreds of thousands of solar panels has already been sold through long-term agreements to companies including Starbucks, Workday, and Toyota Motor North America. Hyundai E&C, a subsidiary of the automaker Hyundai, says this is its largest solar project outside Asia and marks a shift from overseas government contracts to global project financing. Partners in the project include Korea Midland Power, Korea Overseas Infrastructure & Urban Development Corp., Topsun, EIP Asset Management, Primoris Renewable Energy, and High Road Energy Marketing. Project partners highlight that the Lucy Solar Project demonstrates how international collaboration can create clean energy and boost local economic development in Texas.
