Corning Wins $6B Meta Fiber Deal as Optical Communications Surge

Corning has secured a $6 billion, multi-year order from Meta Platforms for optical-fiber cables to support its expanding data centers. The deal underscores the industry’s shift from copper to fiber, enabling faster data transfer as Meta’s data centers grow to house hundreds of GPUs per rack. Meta plans roughly 30 new data centers, including the Hyperion facility in Louisiana, expected to be completed by 2030 and hosting about 1.3 million GPUs, which could require tens of thousands of miles of optical cable. Corning’s optical communications business has seen strong growth, with 2025 revenue at $6.2 billion, up 35%, including a 61% rise in enterprise optical revenue and more than doubling in hyperscale data-center revenue. The Meta order is expected to contribute to Corning’s enterprise segment revenue over several years, highlighting the company’s increasing role in supporting global data-center expansion.
