International Companies German Investments More Than Doubled in 2025

International companies more than doubled their investments in Germany in 2025, according to a report based on data from the Deutsche Bundesbank. For the first time since 2003—excluding the pandemic period—foreign firms invested more in Germany than German companies invested abroad, with outbound investment totaling €86 billion. The German Economic Institute (IW) attributes this shift to Germany’s economic strength and political stability in an increasingly uncertain global environment. Experts highlight legal certainty, predictable regulations, and access to the EU single market of around 450 million consumers as key advantages attracting foreign investors. Germany Trade & Invest notes that the EU’s lack of internal tariffs and harmonized regulations support efficient supply chains and lower costs. The trend aligns with a broader global rebound in investment, with UNCTAD reporting a 14% rise in worldwide foreign direct investment to $1.6 trillion, largely benefiting developed economies—Germany among the top destinations.
