TGS, BGP, Staatsolie embark on seismic survey to map oil & gas deposits in shallow waters

Norwegian-American energy data company TGS, Suriname’s national oil company Staatsolie, and BGP Offshore have launched a seismic survey in shallow offshore waters off Saramacca and Coronie to identify potential oil and gas reserves. The survey, which began on November 20, 2025, covers around 2,000 square kilometers with water depths of 20–50 meters and will run for two months. Using the BGP Prospector 3D seismic vessel with eight 6-kilometer streamers, the project will collect high-quality geological data to support exploration. Conducted under a multi-client agreement, the data can be sold to third parties, while Staatsolie retains ownership, can use it for its own exploration, and earns a share of proceeds. The initiative aligns with Staatsolie’s efforts to attract international investment through its “Open-Door Offering” launched on November 24, 2025, and to further develop Suriname’s offshore oil and gas potential.
