Chiesi inaugurates expanded manufacturing facility for LGWP MDIs in France

Chiesi Group has inaugurated an expanded manufacturing facility in La Chaussée-Saint-Victor, France, dedicated to producing low global warming potential (LGWP) metered dose inhalers (MDIs). The site, which already manufactures both MDIs and DPIs, will reach a capacity of 25 million MDI packages and 9 million DPI packages annually and employ around 300 people by 2026, adding 50 new jobs. This development aligns with Chiesi’s broader sustainability goals and follows similar plans for an LGWP MDI plant in Nervine, Italy. The French site will play a key role in the company’s plan to bring its HFA 152a-based inhalers—with significantly lower environmental impact—to market by the end of 2025, pending regulatory approvals. Chiesi emphasizes that this investment reflects Europe’s capability to lead in sustainable pharmaceutical manufacturing and innovation. Impact on French manufacturers: - Innovation Boost: Encourages other French pharma producers to invest in green technologies and eco-friendly materials. - Employment Growth: Creates new skilled jobs, strengthening France’s pharmaceutical and industrial labor market. - Supply Chain Development: Increases demand for local suppliers of packaging, components, and sustainable propellants. - Competitive Advantage: Enhances France’s position as a European leader in sustainable healthcare manufacturing. - Environmental Leadership: Sets a benchmark for integrating low-emission production practices into industrial operations
